"My donor showed me that Life is beautiful; what an amazing Gift to share!" Deyra , kidney/pancreas recipient
We thank the thousands of Ohioans who make a $1 contribution to the Second Chance Trust Fund when applying for or renewing their Ohio drivers license or identification card at the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV).
Nearly 2,500 Ohioans need life saving organ transplants and are registered on the national waiting list. The number on the list grows every year. Organ and tissue donation provides a second chance for life.
Many projects have been supported with dollars raised through the Second Chance Trust Fund since its founding in 1997. These projects have raised awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation throughout Ohio, and include the establishment of the Ohio Donor Registry, organ and tissue donation awareness materials for driver education classes, a nursing school curriculum, and a statewide awareness campaign, to name just a few.
In December 2000, Governor Bob Taft signed Senate Bill 188, the Organ Donor Bill, which created the Ohio Donor Registry to make it easier for Ohioans to make a personal commitment to organ and tissue donation. The Second Chance Trust Fund works in partnership with the BMV to increase knowledge about the Registry and to increase the number who join the Registry to help those in need.
Give your $1 to the Second Chance Trust Fund the next time you renew your drivers license. Be A Hero. Every dollar counts!
