Allison Herr, Liver Recipient and Jenny Herr, Allison's mother
DLO_Jenny_Allison_Toledo_LOur daughter, Allison, was born with a rare liver disease called biliary atresia. At 17 days old, she underwent surgery and doctors were hopeful that she would have a “normal” life. But within three months, she was feeding tube dependent and on numerous medications. Eventually, we were referred to a transplant team, and Allison was finally listed when she was 13 months old.

Our baby was getting sicker by the day. When she turned two, Allison was as jaundice as an orange pumpkin. She only weighed 15 pounds and had tiny extremities with a huge distended abdomen. Finally, in January 2006, our prayers were answered and Allison received a liver transplant! Today she is full of energy and enjoys dancing, running, gymnastics, t-ball and school. We hope to meet our donor family someday and thank them in person for their gift of life to Allison.
